Pharamond on Syndae

Syndae
Today, Stefan Schulz played an excerpt of Biophores, from Naturalis Historia, on his Syndae podcast.

About the show :

"I am not really into birthdays, but when it comes to the podcast anniversary, other dates of celebration pop up. Like the one by Klaus Schulze, which got celebrated by a tribute album, too. I'm also close to celebrate the weather turning milder, as me and my body are not made for hot temperatures. A big welcome to temperatures below 30 Celsius. Seems a good time to go party. Well, I kind of will for the release of the syndae CD, which will happen at Spaceworks in Hagen. I admit, it's a small location and occasion, but it's where it all started. The podcast's birthplace so to say. And I hope that some of you listeners will join me. But for tonight, let's celebrate with cool music brought to live by Klaus Schulze (Silhouettes), Ansgar Stock (In Love With the Moon), i-One (Singularity), Pharamond (Naturalis Historia), Sonic Chain (The Sound of Syndae)."

The podcast :

Episode 445

Tracklist :

Klaus Schulze - Quae simplex (excerpt) (Silhouettes)
Ansgar Stock - Jedy Cruiser 188 (In Love With the Moon)
i-One - Photosynthesis/Gravitation (Singularity)
Pharamond - Biophores (excerpt) (Naturalis Historia)

Naturalis Historia review on Synth&Sequences

Sylvain Lupari wrote the very first review of my album Naturalis Historia on his blog Synth&Sequences.

"(...)This 2nd album of Pharamond meets our expectations with an EM as much well done than on Orbis Tertius and tied to a high level of creativity. This is great EM and an excellent album which transcends the usual genre while being rather accessible in its metamorphoses.  (...)"

Perceptual Defence's "Time Lines" review on Synth&Sequences

Sylvain Lupari just put online on Synth&Sequences his review of Perceptual Defence's double album Time Lines, which I contributed the track Cosmic Time on CD 2. Here it is.

Synth&Sequences
"(...) Cosmic Time, with Pharamond, is more audacious. After a very ambiospherical intro which is knotted in sizzling synth waves and in singings of flute, the sequences run away in keen pulsations which eat up their shadows, creating a starving and undisciplined structure of rhythm which finally converges into a beautiful Berlin School which is too short. (...)"

"(...) There are some very beautiful moments in this album which is a real demystification of the Arpeggiator. (...)"

" (...) Sein faible für die traditionelle Berliner Schule, durchzieht das gesamte Album und manifestiert sich in der intensiven Anwendung von ausgeprägten Sequenzer-Elementen, die vielfach hübsch in Szene gesetzt werden und native Veränderungen erfahren. (...)"

Orbis Tertius review on MusikZirkus-Magazin

Stephan Schelle, editor of the well known MusikZirkus-Magazin, published today the first ever german review of my album Orbis Tertius. He also sums up very well Jorge Luis Borges' short story, which provided me both the concept and inspiration. Here it is.

" (...) Nachdem ich Sylvain Mazars als Berichterstatter der elektronischen Musik kennen gelernt habe, muss ich gestehen, zeigt er sich auf „Orbis Tertius“ von einer ganz anderen Seite. Er beweist, dass man nicht nur über Musik schreiben, sondern sie auch sehr gut selber machen kann. Hut ab, vor diesem Debüt. Sehr zu empfehlen."

Pharamond on Syndae

Syndae
Yesterday, Stefan Schulz played Uqbar, another excerpt from Orbius Tertius, on his Syndae podcast.

About tonight's show :

"Back to school tonight, the Berlin one of course, having lots of nice soundscapes and sequencing tonight. I usually call it traditional electronica, not because people wear strange dresses and dance in circles, but because that's where EM started out. Quite a hand full of great such tracks tonight, half a dozen to be precise. It all begins with a new name to syndae, WellenVorm with Toene des Nebels. Also new, Pharamond and his album Orbis Tertius. Then, a look back on the Schallwelle compilation from August this year, with a mesmerizing track by Synchronized. We then have the new album Frames by Rene Splinter. Followed by the collaboration project Gorgon Nebula and their album Gorgon Stare. Closing up this show with Nano by Fratoroler."

The podcast :

Episode 278

Tracklist :

WellenVorm - Sonnenstahl (Toene des Nebels)
Pharamond - Uqbar (Orbis Tertius)
Synchronized - Das Rennrad (Schallplatte XVI / Sampler)
Rene Splinter - Celluloid Skyline (Frames)
Gorgon Nebula - Gorgon Stare (Gorgon Stare)
Fratoroler - Nano (Nano)

Orbis Tertius review on Synth&Sequences

Sylvain Lupari wrote another very nice review of my album Orbis Tertius on his huge blog Synth&Sequences.

"(...) A very beautiful album which has all the ingredients to please to those most demanding fans of vintage Berlin School EM. Sylvain Mazars shows a stunning maturity and a sense of writing which is quite disconcerting with all those music turnovers which bring the listener in his sonic heaven. You have guessed that to me “Orbis Tertius” is wonderful surprise! (...)"

Orbis Tertius review on MusicZeit

First review of Orbis Tertius by Dave Law on MusicZeit (where the album is also available)

"The final album uploaded by Syngate since the last update ‘Orbis Tertius’ is by a new artist Pharamond. Again sequences abound. It does have some Berlin School moments but also covers wider ground. Indeed it can be quite inventive while at the same time never becoming a difficult listen. The opening track is probably the one with the greatest punch, the others chugging along nicely with pleasant melodies. The third and fourth tracks ‘Uqbar’ and ‘Uqbar 2’ are probably my favourites, To sum up, Pharamond does have a sound of its own but there is also enough familiarity about it to avoid sounding alien. A superb debut."
